Human Impact Study
An analysis of the impacts human activities have had upon an environment includes; impacts on biophysical environmental, biodiversity, and large and small scale systems. Large scale analysis looks at actions which impact atmospheric and climate dynamics while small scale systems look habitats and ecosystems of the area focusing on biological impacts (pollutants, run-off, eutrophication, etc).
Biophysical features: examine the physical impacts on the landscape using infrastructure, communities, and resource extraction. Biodiversity impacts: reduction of biodiversity through monocultures and introduction of invasive exotics.
Students will be able to analyze the effect of point source and nonpoint source pollutants and utilize different sites to design a sustainability matrix for the community.
